Still exhausted from the trip
to Brixton and about 12 hours after my arrival from London, I started my
trip to Paris. We arrived at Le Zénith
at 16:00 hrs and our Belgian friends were already there. After waiting
there for some time we noticed that the Japanese Freddie
"lookalike" was also present (he also showed up at the Brixton)
and though in my view it's a ridiculous thing to be dressed up as
Freddie
(with fake moustache and painted-on chest-hair) he sure entertained the
audience by doing Freddie Mercury's wellknown singalong and
a lot of people responded. Suddenly a new entry-gate was formed with some
fences and we immediately ran to that spot to be first in queue.
Finally at 19:00 hrs the gates were opened and we ran inside after being
thoroughly searched by security. I think everyone was clever
enough to keep large cameras at home! Inside we went to one of the
doors and at first we were allowed to go in but then we were
roughly forced to go back to the door. Security drove us back as if we
were cattle. That was just horrible as we saw people enter the hall
through another door. We were told we had to wait another 2 minutes.
Surely no compliment for the French Security people.
When we finally got in we ran to the front of the stage. Where
Brixton was an intimate show, Paris was a real rock concert.
The audience responded perfectly and again Brian, Roger and Paul gave
their best. Totally confident and to me it seemed everything
went well. The well-known live tracks were great and the audience
surely welcomed the tracks from the latest albums.
When Brian spoke to the French audience (though a lot of people did come
from other countries as we all know) the audience
really went wild. This was a great moment. The sound, the lights, the
performances, the special moments were all perfect.
Paul interacted with the audience a lot more this time. At the end of the
show one of my companions managed to catch the original
sixpence Brian had used during this show. One can believe his dream came
true!
After the show we waited at one of the exits for a very long time. It took
hours for the guys to leave Le Zénith.
Roger left without notice, Paul did some signing (I managed to shake
hands) and finally after 2,5 hours Brian left.
Again he was the one that really took some time for his fans. He did some
signing ("sorry only special items") and
also this time I managed to shake hands with him and say some words to
which he responded in a very kind way.
Like the Brixton concert I wanted to be at the front of the stage in
Paris, so
I did not buy merchandise... again.
